We are thrilled to announce that our firm has been named a winner of this year’s Best In American Living Awards. Our LA Hillside Contemporary Residence was named a finalist in the “Custom Home, Best-on-the-Boards” category. The Best In American Living Award winners exemplify the best of the best in national design trends, as identified by the industry-leading BALA judging panel each year.
The Best On The Board category consists of projects that are currently in design or under construction, so judging is based on conceptual renderings, floor plans and design details provided by the entrant. Pictured to the right are the renderings submitted. Below are more details on the project.
Our LA Hillside Contemporary Residence is located in Highland, CA – about an hours drive from down town Los Angeles. The contemporary home is situated into a hillside with large expanses of glass which capture and frame commanding views of the valley below. Additionally, the large rooftop decks and patio spaces allow for classic indoor-outdoor living. The home includes 5 bedrooms and 7 baths, totaling 8500 square feet of livable space. Features include an entry bridge over a sunken courtyard with a waterfall/fire feature, a large open living space and kitchen, private bedroom wings, and outdoor amenities such as outdoor kitchen/dining, bar, infinity pool and spa, pool house, and rooftop deck. One of the first of its kind, it is located on an Indian reservation that allows for a unique set of design parameters and time lines.

Additionally – in early December our firm took home a NEWH Award in the “Best Bar” category for our design of the Spire Bar at the Arizona Biltmore. This was our first time entering the NEWH Awards and it was an honor to have won amongst a very competitive pool of submittals. The reception took place at Papago Clubhouse in Scottsdale, Arizona – Shae Fanning and Bridget Fish attended to accept the award on PHX’s behalf. Congratulations to the entire team that worked on this project – PHX Architecture (Erik Peterson, Maurita Harris, Ron Skoog, Mark Schriefer), Creative Designs in Lighting, Jim Smith with Serving the Nation, and Virserius Studio based out of New York.
