PHX POPUp featuring local artist and Brophy College Prep teacher. D. Roy Brubaker.

In the most recent installment of our firm’s PHX POPup series, we showcased the insanely talented D. Roy Brubaker.

D. Roy Brubaker is a local Arizona artist that is known for being deeply committed to the production of his unique and artistic works. Each piece clearly invokes reflection from the viewer; each time the soul is carefully considered. These paintings are intense at first sight, vibrant and bold, though the musings of each piece force the audience to consider fundamental questions; each question has a unique form for every individual. He is a 4th generation Phoenician and continues to display dedication to the local community, giving back to the local community in creative and thoughtful ways: most recently he hosted Dreaming of a Cheeseburger, which focused on raising funds for local nonprofits by giving the local homeless community a voice on each of the pieces displayed. D. Roy has also shown he is not afraid to challenge the conventionality of the art community; he hosted a successful solo show in his apartment which brought to light the need to develop the strained relationship(s) between galleries and artists. The constructions, both on canvas and on brick, are manifestations of what was originally created in bursts in Paris with friend iSaidaHip. These works combine collages of different mediums and produce a language Phoenix needs, one that is no longer spoken in a whisper. D. Roy rejects the idea of anonymous art. The artist is a person and we are no longer collecting art, we are buying individuals.

PHX 11th Annual Summer Camp Commences with Final Presentations

On June 21st our firm along with the campers’ parents and siblings got to listen to all five summer campers present their final presentation that they had been working diligently on throughout the course of the two weeks here at PHX. With the help of our PHX mentors (Brad McFarlane – lead camp counselor, German Vega, Esteban Loya and Erika Tellez) each of the campers designed their very own dream home. The Campers were given a site on the side of Camelback Mountain to use as the inspiration to build any type of home they dreamed of. Campers did initial concept drawings, 3d renderings and then pulled their entire presentation together using InDesign. Some of the campers were even able to make a real life model of their home using foam core board.

Each camper graduated PHX camp with flying colors! We can’t wait to welcome a whole new group of campers back to Summer Camp in 2020.

PHX Summer Camp  is for grade school students, ages 12-18 years old, who are interested in learning more about Architecture. This two-week long camp is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about what it is like to pursue a career in Architecture. Throughout the two weeks students will be introduced to the various, exciting aspects of being an architect including site walks, guest speakers, hands-on activities and camp goers will even have the chance to design their very own project. Camp attendees will get to learn about space planning, project management, business strategies, and the history behind Architecture as a whole. We will also go over the basics of hand rendering, 3D modeling and drafting and tools like Photoshop & In Design. Throughout the two weeks, campers will get to attend an architect-led home tour and other related field trips. This comprehensive, hands-on learning experience will give each student the opportunity to ask questions, expand their creativity and the unique chance to experience what it is really like to be an Architect!
