COMMUNITY – Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts

Every year, as a team, we pick a day to donate our time to causes and organizations we’re passionate about, and this October, we were fortunate to spend the day at The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. We had caught wind of an exciting new structure they’re looking to add to their campus in Old Town Scottsdale, and were thrilled to help in the initial design stages by hosting a bit of a design competition amongst the firm. We spent the morning meeting with the team at Scottsdale Arts and listened to pain points, needs, and bucket list items for the project. We then walked the campus, seeing the site where the building would go and getting a feel for the campus, keeping in mind existing structures and any vegetation. By the time we finished the tour, each team was bubbling over with ideas for how best to leverage the site and any existing structures to address the client’s wish list. Some teams opted to design a structure that stood alone, competing with existing structures for attention, aiming for a standout, “wow” factor. Other teams opted to pay homage to the existing buildings, making the new structure feel as if it had always been there. An ode to the craftsmanship that makes The Scottsdale Center a standout facility. Each group crafted its own design and presentation, hoping to win over the panel of judges. Ultimately, there could only be one winner, but leaving that event, there was no better feeling than being able to provide the client with four new concept designs that could be used towards project funding efforts.

Coming together as a firm is always one of our favorite things to do. Part of what makes PHX ARCHITECTURE so great, is the wonderful diversity of ideas that each individual carries. From our accounting team to the Architects who have been licensed for 10+ years, each person contributed their own unique solutions and perspectives to the problems the client was facing. Showing us, once again, that teamwork does, in fact, make the dream work, and we are proud to be a firm that can come together, have fun, and produce some incredible designs.
