On May 1st the entire PHX Architecture team went down to St. Mary’s Food Bank and helped sort and break down 21,133 pounds of butter and was able to produce 17,064 individual meals. Prior to us volunteering at the St. Mary’s Food Bank, we held our own month long food drive to help gather canned foods. We had an amazing Warhol inspired box for the St. Mary’s food drive, designed by Esteban Loya, Assoc. AIA and Varnell Alexander, Assoc. AIA. We had the most gracious donations from the following companies: Karen Romersa of Plant Solutions, Phoenix Home and Garden, Iconic Design Studio, and Desert Star Construction who donated 2,000 cans of Campbell’s Chicken Noodle soup! We also had individuals who stopped by and made donations; Jennifer Campos and Bob Berg who donated a $200 check to the St. Mary’s Food Bank. St. Mary’s has positively impacted the lives of many here in Arizona – and across the globe – and PHX Architecture wants to help them continue to do so.
St. Mary’s became the world’s first food bank back in 1967, since then it has encouraged the development of several other food banks across the country. One of the largest food banks in the world, St. Mary’s has several outreach programs including the Community Kitchen, Mobile Pantry, Hunger Heroes, Kids Cafe, and more. Their Kid’s Cafe program alone serves over 5,000 meals to hungry children each day!
